Use the Summer to Help Your Child Practice Math

If your child simply doesn't want to practice any math this summer break, use these tips to trick them into doing math.

Make Math Fun

Math doesn't always have to be done on a sheet of paper, it can be part of a fun game. Get your family together and enjoy a night of board games. Choose a game that includes some kind of math, like Scrabble or Monopoly. Have your children be the scorekeepers or the banker so that they can practice basic math skills and money skills.

Apply Math to Everyday Situations

One thing everyone hears about math is that it will be necessary for everyday situations. Prove this to your child by having them perform some simple calculations while taking care of errands. For example, while going back to school shopping, have your child figure out the price of certain items that are on sale. They'll have to have some knowledge of percentages to figure out how much is being discounted from the original price and how much the item costs after the discount.

Look for Online Resources

For those days when you just can't think of anything math related, have some fun worksheets on hand. Look online for printable worksheets that will have your child putting their skills to the test. There are also plenty of online games and apps that are fun and educational for students of all ages.
